Imogen, Rosie and Emily
"You are a very gifted and talented artist. In each case you have captured the spirit and inner feelings of all three girls in an astonishing and accurate way. You can be justifiably proud of your achievement!"
The key concept of this triptych of Imogen, Rosie and Emily that I opted for with their parents, was their togetherness in the context of their distinctiveness.
The sisters were close to each other yet pursuing different paths in life and had varying temperaments – Imogen was lively, Rosie was affable and Emily, the eldest of the trio was relaxed and sage.
I employed a few techniques to communicate this individual yet connected relationship between the sisters.
I used background colours which I felt linked to the dominant characteristics of each, such as orange for energetic and purple for peaceful and composed.
To connect the three portraits I then used a common, continuous element of the background, namely the top of the bench they were sitting on, which I aligned across the portraits. Hence although each is a separate piece, they are designed to be situated together, much like the sisters themselves.
